Immersive Cartography

Virtual Mapping of the Sagehen Watershed

Team Lead: Carinne Knight
A creative collaboration with the Center for the Study of the Force Majeure (CFM) in a large-scale entrepreneurial vision for re-imagining the forest economy of the state of California. CFM's Saving The West (STW) project is an important initiative to transform the economic underpinnings of California and the Western United States. This project will make an economic case for developing a new kind of forest industry cluster that cultivates new businesses to can make useful products from wood biomass with the goal of returning resources back into the local ecosystem.

Immersive Cartography begins to construct a new cultural, life-web-based narrative that directs ecological success by guiding productivity toward a co-equally beneficial use of resources. This virtual map visualizes the changing environment within 360° interactive panoramic images marked by GPS coordinates and tracks resources harvested from the area, creating a time-based platform to experience ecological and economic changes.
